URBAN DECAY DE SLICK OIL CONTROL MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY + AFTER PHOTO
Hi,
In the hot days of Pakistani summers when everyone's makeup(if they are brave enough to put it on) is melting you often wish for a sealant or a product that would lock your makeup in place. The idea of a makeup fixing spray is not very new.Makeup Artists heavily rely on sprays to keep the bridal or model makeup intact. Now these sprays have made it to the regular customers too.I got the chance to try a makeup setting spray by Urban Decay too.Basically UD has two to three types of sprays ..Deslick,All nighter and Chill.I have come to know that De slick works best for oily skin so I got that one obviously.
How was it?Read to know:
Price PKR 1650.It is travel size.Got it from shopaholic on facebook.
It has to be used after makeup at a distance of 8-12 inches from face in "T" and "X" formation.Preferably before mascara application.UD advises to use this before makeup too for added longevity.
The bottle has a pump spray and nozzle is just average in performance. It does mist out the product satisfactorily, but it is not as fine and dispersed as I would have liked.
After spray you can feel and see it on your skin like mist and then it absorbs and gets a little tacky.Thankfully the tackiness disappears after sometime when spray dries. It does feel a little tight at first, but the feeling goes away.
I am big fan of matte foundations and mineral makeup.Hence whenever I apply makeup my biggest fear is "dead matte" look or powdery appearance. However, when I spray the De slick on,I feel my makeup has smoothed down and achieved a natural finish. It looks like my skin has the right amount of hydration and the foundation looks like a part of my skin.
Ever since I have started using this spray I never feel like my makeup will end up looking too "made up" and I get compliments on my skin too :)
Now the real question...Does it really keep makeup fresh?
Well basically this entails two things: 1)-makeup integrity...like foundation looks fresh for longer .2)-Keeping oiliness at bay
Honestly,I have seen part 1 working for a good 6-7 hours when I am wearing normal foundations and almost 8-10 hours when I am wearing mineral makeup.
However, as I happen to be a very oily individual I did see oiliness peaking through near about the 5th hours. So, it did not give me the total DE SLICK experience.I had to blot after that.To see the amount of oiliness look at the photo below I took this after 7 hours of makeup wear and did not blot before snapping the photo.

At the end of 7 hours

The oiliness looks forgivable and might be taken as glow in milder season, but you can well imagine how bad it would look in the heat of june and power breakdown problems. Also it would make me wipe my face and blot frequently resulting in accidental removal of makeup.Totally not ideal for me.
Hey I am not complaining. This spray has given me what I could only dream of until now.It is a sure fire of getting my makeup right, be it summers or winters.Hence I do not mind a little blotting here and there :)
NOTE:This spray is manufactured by Skindinavia for Urban Decay.I think this one is the "Regular" makeup setting spray by Skindinavia. To solve my problem I have got Skindinavia "No More Shine" makeup setting spray too.It aims at keeping skin oil free too.Review coming soon so stay tuned **winks**

Thank u Aapi for the review, i just bought this spray last week,.i love ur smile, u look very pretty MashaAllah :) i was actually wondering if this spray is gona keep oil at bay or not, but *sighs* did i make mistake in purchasing it? coz i need it in hot weather during meetings and parties/get togethers + eids will be coming up in the humid weather :( any suggestions
ReplyDeletehi Faiza. This does keep oil away for a good 4-5 hours in summers and then you need to blot. However in spite of the oiliness,it maintains the integrity of makeup which is I think more important in humid weather ,even more important then keeping oil away, since patchiness of foundation is a very common problem in summers. So all you need to do is blot and look pretty :)
