DIY: OLD WALL TROPHY MAKEOVER

Hello all,

Happy new year.I hope you had an awesome start of the new year. The arrival of new year is just the turning of calendar page, but with the right resolutions and determination you really can make a fresh start for your self. This year I resolve to study more, take my long pending exam and do more DIY/tutorial posts.

I love DIY projects. With some imagination you can recycle the old things from around the house into pretty decorations. The post today is about something awesome I achieved and wanted to share with you girls.I have so many old wall trophies lying around the house. They have lost their meaning over the years and aren't very pretty so can't be displayed. Most were solid wood so I didn't want to toss them in the bin. After mulling over what to do with them,I finally found a way.

Take a look:

DIY: OLD WALL TROPHY MAKEOVER

HOW I DID IT:

1)-I just painted the trophy in black using black spray paint.I am sorry I don't have a before shot of the trophy as I never thought that it would be a successful project :P

2)-Then I took a small candle holder.I purchased it from one dollar shop/china market.

I had to jazz up the plain look somehow so I sprayed acrylic lacquer(finishing spray) in the glass and quickly poured in lots of glitter in the glass. Then swirled the glass until all sides were covered with glitter. You will have a minute before the lacquer dries.

Then I put on a big blob of white german glue(available on craft and stationary stores, hardware stores) on the shield almost at junction of upper 2/3rd and lower 1/3rd.I gave it a full 24 hours to stick on.

3)-In the mean while I had to decorate the trophy and hide the etching, writing etc.My idea was to use artificial flowers(easily available for 150pkr per stem) to decorate the shield. However, the idea wouldn't have worked, because the flowers were made of flammable material and candle posed a fire hazard.

You might remember that I was looking for a home made play dough recipe for kids.Well,I found the recipe, but its not edible and its used more for home decor then kids playtime. You guessed it...ITALIAN DOUGH.[I will soon publish complete recipe with pictorial].

I made some flowers with the dough. Colored them and sprinkled some glitter..A few sketches or photos will be great for inspiration before you start.

4)-After a full 24 hour waiting period the flowers were dry and I arranged them on the shield. Then using the glue I pasted them all on the shield. The glue takes a few minutes to dry so you can change the positions to your liking. However, too much rearranging after putting in glue can result in an untidy job so I did it once only.

5)-I rolled out a star, dotted in the word "PEACE" and pasted it above the candle. It cracked during drying giving the trophy an olden look. So,i dusted it with metallic gold craft powder to complete the look.

6)-The shield was left to dry for 24 hours. Then I sprayed on the acrylic lacquer all over the finished project to achieve the sheen and polished look.

7)-A small area was left uncovered and I found this little butterfly in my baby's toys and pasted it on.

However, when candle was lit the fabric burned so I trimmed it all away.It still doesn't look bad. What do you think?

Another mistake was painting the glass candle holder white. It didn't look great so i just took a paper cutter and scraped the paint away. This step need careful scraping so that glass doesn't get damaged.Learn from my mistakes.

So finally this is what it looks like.

I hope you like it girls. It was my first ever flower making project.I have never ever done it before in my life.So what do you girls say about this recycling?I have a lot more coming up soon :).

Stay blessed and pretty.
