I love dining out. My husband has a real busy routine, and we don’t get much time to go
out, but whenever there is an occasion we try to make the best of it.
When I cleared my commission exam we decided to celebrate. The choice of place was
left to me, and I had the place in my mind, long before we had a reason to celebrate J
CAFÉ MONAL in pir sohawa:
I, first, saw the place when my hubby took us all there, uninformed. He just wanted me
to keep quite and wait, which was kinda difficult, given that it was near midnight and we
were headed towards damn-e-koh Islamabad(altitude=3900ft amsl.)
After almost 20min of squealing at every risky turn,(I have really become a chicken
heart after my two babies coz it wasn’t that risky after all) we reached pir sohawa.
I was like,OH MY GOD. The beauty is breath taking. Whole city of Islamabad spread
along the horizon, glowing and winking , is just mind blowing. The cool breeze playing
on taha’s face made him tickle and giggle.
We rounded a turn and there it was…CAFÉ MONAL
With all its beauty and twinkling lights and, to my amazement, ronaq despite the late hours.
So, any fears that I had about coming to pir sohawa at night, just evaporated.
So, the next time we went there to enjoy the celebration dinner.Cafe' monal is a
distance of 32 km from Islamabad city. the road to pir sohawa is carpeted and in
excellent condition. It is very well lit at night, and there are boards, strategically
placed, to guide you. The journey is safe and scenic and, even at night, one enjoys the
view of Islamabad city.
Along with the indoor dinning facility, there is outdoor dinning as well, which is more
recommended. They also have live music, which adds a bit of taste to all the experience.
We preferred outdoor since it was sucha beautiful night. They also have a tree house
added to the building now .
Here is what they have to say about the place.
“:At The Monal we take pride in offering an authentic Pakistani cuisine that is as rich
and diverse as our legacy. It has been produced by the fusion of indigenous flavors and
aromas with culinary bequests from Arabia , Persia and Central Asia, as the many tribes,
people and cultures blended over centuries across the valleys and plains of the Indus.
And in many ways, The Monal - named after a pheasant of rare and exquisite beauty
dwelling a little further north - epitomes this amalgam of the modern and the ancient.
The resort is a touch of modernity set in pastoral idyll. Situated at a height of about
1173 meters above sea level, it is equipped with the latest facilities, but offers an
ambiance cultivated by heritage”.
We ordered chicken steak with
mushroom sauce for me, and for my
husband steak with pepper sauce well
done.
For our pre-schooler we ordered chicken
manchurian,fried rice and french fries.
The food arrived after reasonable time given that it was weekend and very very busy.
We loved the food and the ghazal playing in the background...mohabbat krney waley km na hon gey.
The experience would have been out of this world but, our 5 month old brought us back to earth with her incessant wailing.
I had to leave my dinner and go indoors to calm her down. The manager arranged our
dinner indoors which, was a very kind gesture. After dinner we had a little stroll and
saw the beautiful stalls with local handicrafts.
All in all, it was a good experience if it weren't so overcrowded.
