RIMMEL LASTING FINISH 25 HOUR FOUNDATION

Foundation is considered  as second skin and very rightly so.Finding the foundation that matches your complexion, skin tone and color is like getting 70% of your makeup done flawlessly.I recently got to know that Rimmel has introduced a new, long wearing foundation in the market.

Being an OILY I am always attentive towards words like long wear, extra staying power, matte etc. This time HYDRATING was what I wanted along with the above mentioned qualities. So,I thought that I must try this new foundation. Was it able to win my love and loyalty?Read on to find.

RIMMEL LASTING FINISH 25 HOUR FOUNDATION in soft beige.Comparison swatch

I ordered it from Beauty Arena.Cost me around PKR1295.Here is the haul post. The shopping experience was delightful as always.Cash On Delivery and delivery in two days.Great customer service.

Ok,now the Product... The foundation comes in a tube packaging, which, although better then a bottle, lacks the efficiency of a pump dispenser system.I sometimes pour more product then I want, which obviously goes waste.

It has a mild floral scent which I like.

The consistency is thick. As you can see in the comparison swatch, the consistency is not as runny as Revlon Color Stay Makeup With Soft flex.(Click on the name to read complete review).

HOW IS THE RIMMEL 25 HOUR FOUNDATION SIMILAR TO REVLON

COLOR STAY FOUNDATION?

I chose Revlon Color stay foundation to draw the comparison, because:

1)-They have almost the same texture and thickness.

2)-These two foundation are very much similar in a lot of other areas like

      coverage,finish etc.

3)-Both have pink undertones.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO FOUNDATIONS:

1)-The first difference is that Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation(If you find your perfect match) doesn't give a very white look in daylight, like Revlon Color stay.

2)-Rimmel 25 hour foundation is not as suitable for oily skin as Revlon color stay.

3)-It's staying power is not as great as Revlon Color stay.

MY OPINION OF THE RIMMEL 25 HOUR FOUNDATION:

The first and most important thing about this foundation is that it is difficult to blend with fingers and sponge. You will get a good finish only if you use foundation brush with this foundation.

On application, you have to blend quick as it sets fast and becomes hard to blend..It is also a little sticky which increases the difficulty in blending. So,for good results,I apply to one area of my face at a time.

At first it looks a little tacky, but then adjust to give a semi matte finish, which was a little disappointing as  I was expecting a dewy finish. The reason I had  selected this foundation ,after reading plenty of reviews, was  that it is supposed to give a dewy finish. But strangely it didn't work for me that way. The hydration I was expecting just didn't appear on my skin.

It looked tacky and caked up at first, but then adjusted a little.Maybe I had a shade mismatch so the whitish look never went away :(  However,in the comparison swatches above you can see that the shade is a close match to my other foundations. So,may be its the slight pink undertone which causes this.

After some research and discussing the problem with a very experienced and seasoned fellow blogger, who had used it,I arrived at a conclusion. According to my theory,to get a good shade match you need to pick a shade darker then your skin tone/regular foundation shade because, this foundation  looks darker in the tube and before application. After application, the foundation sets and the shade turns a little light thus giving a near match.

The dry spots around my nose were highlighted to give an ugly look. So,if your skin is very dry or flaky,it might exaggerate the condition for you,(creasing in the laugh lines...ugh). So,yes it does highlight rough areas.

It just didn't work as good as my HG foundation Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundationwhich adapts to my complexion beautifully and stays as long as I don't remove it.(12 hour is my experience).

The coverage is from medium to full.It has to applied carefully with moderation.Layer it up more and you end up looking like Count Dracula.

Wear time is pretty decent.Stayed on me for 7-8 hours, (25 hours claim is just that...a claim).I had to go in for touch ups very frequently.Like after one hour,I had to use my Rimmel stay matte pressed powder..So,it is not for oily skin at all.

This foundation is a great one for dry skin. However,on oily skin it can start looking splotchy after sometime. So,people with oily skin should avoid it,especially in summers. Also,I think if you have troubled skin or breakouts, this might make them look bad and flaky.

{NOTE:I have very oily skin, with some post acne scars. Some dry spots near nose area in winters}.

Shade range is very limited. So,finding the right match can be a little tricky.

BEFORE and AFTER:

Note the ashey finish of Rimmel Lasting finish.Would have been less noticeable if I had an exact shade match of my skin :( .

IN COMPARISON WITH BOURJOIS 123 PERFECT FOUNDATION:

Note the almost natural look of Bourjois and the slightly made up look of Rimmel. Also bourjois gives a smoother look.

I wore both foundations at a time, one on each cheek to compare. The difference in finish became visible after an hour, when Bourjois(left) adapted to skin and Rimmel(Right) looked  artificial. As you can observe the Bourjois foundation gives a more flawless look, whereas Rimmel foundation looks whitish, especially near the bottom left of the photo,at the laugh line(arrow).

RECOMMENDED:

If you have normal to dry skin and want a  foundation with a decent stay time.People with combination skin can try it in winters too.

RATING:

  2. This might work for me though surely a pump is just so much better! It's tough to chose products for dry skin! More people have oily than dry and therefore I don't find the much hyped about products right for me! :(

  11. I love your thorough reviews. The shades are definitely very limited in this range. I really wish there were some with yellow undertones because I quite like the coverage of it. :)

    1. oh thank you so much Sara. <3 <3 Yeah that's what I keep thinking too.Well one day I will find a foundation which will be moisturizing, oil free, staying power of 12 hours, dewy finish, pore minimizing, yellow undertone and it will keep me shine free for all those long summer hours.Plus it would be easily available too :)

    1. thankyou rakhshan.I think you should definitely go for Bourjois Healthy Mix.It is for dry skin and has a good staying power.Revlon color stay for dry skin will also do good but it is a night time foundation. It looks great in photos and in the evening but during day it gives a whitish look. Also shade match can be a problem.I love the air brushed look it gives though.

    2. ok thank you for the advice, i think i'll try the healthy mix first!:)xx

  15. Hi, Did u try flash photography with these foundations? I have heard foundations with SPF flash backs light and u end up looking like ghost with white patches. I am really concerned about this . Would like to know your take on that.

    1. No I never experienced the whitish look in photos with this one. However as you know this one already looked a little white on me because of the pink undertones so I cant really say if it looked natural first and white in photos :)
Yes it can give white patches on dry skin.

    2. Thanks Shehrzad. Did you try EX1 foundation range too? I have heard good things about it and its specially formulated for asian skin.

    3. No I cant say I have heard of this brand but I will definitely look for it now. Thanks for the heads up <3

    4. Akansha why dont you try revlon color stay?It looks amazing in photos and if the shade is a good match it will look great on you in daylight too.It is one hell of a base. You can read my review on it too in foundation section

    5. Shehrzad i swatched Colorstay liquid foundation in Golden Beige and it looked pretty good and was a perfect match too. I made up my mind to buy it but when i checked spf factor and flash back thing on internet, i dropped the idea. Basically i do not know even a single drugstore foundation which has NO SPF. Ex1 foundation came yesterday in post and looked very nice in day light. Whan i took a photo with a flash, i had a white cast on my face and looked ghosty! I could definitely post a pic on halloween look :P.

Seriously, i am so frustrated right now. I need a foundation which is not pricey and look flawless in day light as well as in flash photos. I will be flying to India next month and I need to look good :)

    6. I have tried so many foundations. You name it revlon,CSP,Maybellin,Kryolan tv paint,Catrice,Tarte,MAC,Mineral makeup .So I hear you when you say that you are looking for that one foundation that does it all.
Have you tried LOREAL True match.it comes in soooo many shades, looks good in daylight and photos.Works great for dry and oily skin too.If you are not on a budget get MAc prolongwear.Waisey b invest in a good foundation because even with daily use most foundations last for 9-10 months. So do give the two mentioned above a try <3

    7. Bourjois 123 perfect b.If you have oily skin

    8. I am tempted to try bourjois and rimmel too but getting a perfect shade is a challenge. These foundations are not formulated for medium/olive skin and most of thetime I found them too pink for me. Im nw35 in mac studio finish. I have tried rimmel match perfect and it was not a good match for me. Mac studio finish oxidised aftr few hours and I looked very orangey/tanned. Even if I decide to invest in a high end foundation, getting a good match is next to impossible. Aah sometimes I think of buying makeup forever hd foundation but here in UK getting it color matched is not possible. Definitely can't risk by buying online. Aah, endless issues with finding a perfect base.
My sister bought L'oreal true match in india but I guess she was given wrong shade. She is nc25. She thinks the shade given to her is too white and looks cakey. She is not happy with it. I guess that's asian mentality to look fairer and the lady at counter had same thought.

    9. Well our sales people try to give us wrong shades all the time too lol. well if you have are NW35 try NARS .it comes in a wide range of colors for asian skins.Waisey do try loreal tru match on your next visit to drugstore.Just swatch and let it stay for sometime to see if the shade and formula work for you.Or you can take a lense holder and take a few drops from tester of any two shades you like then try it at home.

      Delete
  16. That's a great idea Shehrzad. I will take my lens holder to my next drugstore visit.
Okay, i will chk Nars too. I have seen so many youtubers using it. I will share my reviews with u. Thanks a ton for the recommendations.
